OK everyone, raise your hands if you think regular Lanterneer, Ryan Foley, is a nice guy. Now, make sure to keep that question in mind as you're running this week's run, as we'll be asking you to perform the same exercise at the run's conclusion. This week we're running a new route brought to you by, you guessed it, Ryan Foley. It's been aptly titled "Ryan's Folly," and while its a beautiful run, we must admit, it was difficult even by car. It will wind you through parts of the neighborhood you've not yet seen, and then link you back up to parts more familiar. 3.ish and 5.ish routes as always. Make sure to thank Ryan both before and after the run! See you all at 6.
Yet another choose your own adventure run. This week we will leave the bread at home and journey to Manito Park for a test of your humanity and ability to follow the rules. For your 3.ish pleasure, run around Manito's duck pond and back. For the truly adventurous, run around two duck ponds and back (Manito then Cannon Hill). The test? Doing so without feeding the cute little ducks or chasing after the annoying and unnecessarily present seagulls. We'll be checking pockets and blood pressure before the run. See you at 6!
JOIN US AT THE LANTERN TAP HOUSE EVERY TUESDAY AT 6PM FOR OUR RUN CLUB. $2.50 PINTS AND RUN CLUB SPECIALS TO FOLLOW EACH RUN. SPONSORED BY THE LANTERN TAP HOUSE AND RIVER CITY BREWING.
THIS WEEKS RUN...
APRIL 5TH, 2016
Named after the great explorer Jaques Cousteau (pronounced "Jauckez" of course not too sure about the last name), this week's route will be quite a departure from our previous two hill laden routes. Not too hilly, not too flat, not too ... you get the picture. And, you get a picturesque view of beautiful Spokane shortly after exploring Jaques Street! MAKE SURE TO TURN RIGHT ON JAQUES to see the city skyline! 3.ish and 5.ish routes as always. See you all at 6PM!
Newton's Third Law states: "[f]or every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." While Mr. Newton was not a Lanterneer (that we know of), we're confident he had something very similar to this week's route in mind when he came up with this little bit of brilliance. First off, this run is darn near the equal and opposite of last week's run, particularly in its degree of starting difficulty (nothing quite beats running straight up and past the Perry stairs!). Secondly, upon your return to The Lantern following this Machu Picchuesque uphill journey, your legs and lungs will want to do the complete equal and opposite of whatever they were doing for the roughly 20-50 minutes prior. As always, 3.ish and 5.ish routes available. See you Tuesday at 6 PM!
Have no fear it will be back sooner than you think! There is still a small group that gathers to run around 6pm. AND there are always $2.50 pints on Tuesday starting at 6pm. Cheers!
This week for our last official run of the 2015 Lanterneers Run Club Season we'll be combining "Keep It Simple, Stupid!" with a little "Safety First" while throwing in a dash of "King Kong Ain't Got Nothing On Me!"
That's right ... we're once again conquering Mount Saint Helen's eastern most outcropping, Cliff Park as we take on Mt. St. Helen's Fire!
It's an easy run that you all are going to be VERY CAREFUL taking part in (head lamps, reflective gear and coordination highly recommended -- that goes double for Aric). Don't forget to yell out in triumph as you reach the top of the park's stairs (the half-way point)!
We'll follow up all that fun with our much-anticipated END-OF-SEASON PARTY AT THE LANTERN!!!
See you all at 6!
Runners take off at 6pm!
$9 run club special includes:
two chicken tacos + select pint!
And as always two $2.50 pint options!
This week's run pays homage to everybody's favorite sneaky Frenchman, JAQUES! And, because this route takes us past Franklin Elementary, let's pretend it was also created to celebrate Tuesday night's Democratic Presidential Debate. Make sure you hit that turn at JAQUES for a lovely view of the city at sunset, then hustle back to the Lantern to catch the latest on the Clinton vs Sanders vs a Few Other Guys show! Remember your reflective gear … it's getting dark before most of us have a mile under our belts and there's no rule more important than Safety First! (Beer Second!)
It's the 30th week of the 2015 run club season. My how times flies (even if most of us don't) This week we run the "Tale of Two Parks" run, 3,ish regular and 5.ish extended (with Cowley on the uphill return!!!!). Only 5 total runs left, so stock up while you can. It's going to be a long winter and you're going to need to have burned as many calories as possible so you can coast through the holidays and into 2016. See you all at 6:00!
